UPDATE: Europe’s Orsted, GasTerra say not to pay for Russian gas in rubles

ZURICH/MOSCOW, May 30 (PRIME) -- Danish energy company Orsted and Dutch company GasTerra will not pay for Russian gas in rubles, the companies said in statements on Monday.

Orsted does not rule out discontinuing gas imports from Russia.

"Gazprom Export continues to demand that Orsted pays for gas supplies in rubles. We have no legal obligation under the contract to do so, and we have repeatedly informed Gazprom Export that we will not do so. The payment deadline is May 31 and Orsted will continue to pay in euros," the company said.

Orsted also said that it will buy gas on the European market if Gazprom stops its shipments.

GasTerra said that Russian gas giant Gazprom had notified it about the suspension of gas deliveries from Tuesday, which will result in undersupply of around 2 billion cubic meters of gas under the current contract that expires on October 1.
